Pipili Tragedy: Road Accident Claims Lives of Three Young Women, Community in Shock
Pipili, Odisha | June 28, 2025 — In a tragic road accident that has sent shockwaves through the town of Pipili and surrounding regions, three young women lost their lives late Friday night in a horrific crash on the Pipili-Konark road. The victims, identified as Rimizhimi Priyadarshani Sahu, Elena Das, and Kajal Das, were all in their early twenties and reportedly returning home after attending a cultural event in Puri.
According to police and eyewitness reports, the accident occurred around 9:30 PM near a sharp curve close to the Bhubanpur-Pipili bypass. The car, a white hatchback, allegedly lost control at high speed, skidded off the road, and crashed into a large tree. The collision was so severe that the front of the vehicle was completely destroyed, trapping the passengers inside.
Immediate Response and Rescue Efforts
Locals who heard the loud crash rushed to the site and immediately informed the police and ambulance services. The scene was one of horror — twisted metal, shattered glass, and the sound of helpless cries filled the air. By the time emergency services arrived, the three women were unconscious and badly injured.
"They were stuck inside the vehicle. We tried to help, but the car was completely crushed from the front. It took over 20 minutes for police and fire personnel to extract them," said an eyewitness, Santosh Nayak, a resident of a nearby village.
The victims were rushed to Pipili Community Health Centre, but doctors declared all three brought dead. The hospital staff informed the families, who arrived shortly after and broke down upon seeing the tragic condition of their loved ones.

Investigation Underway
The Pipili Police have launched a full investigation into the incident. While initial reports point towards over-speeding and possible loss of control, authorities have not ruled out other possibilities, including mechanical failure or visibility issues.
"Based on the marks on the road and the position of the vehicle, it seems the driver may have attempted to apply brakes too late. We are sending the vehicle for mechanical inspection, and post-mortem reports will also be analyzed," said Inspector Pradeep Nayak, the officer in charge of the case.
Police have also appealed to anyone with dashcam footage or firsthand information to come forward to assist in the investigation.
Community Grieves, Demands Road Safety Measures
News of the accident spread quickly, and within hours, hundreds of people had gathered outside the victims’ homes. The mood was one of deep sorrow, anger, and disbelief.
"This is not the first time such an accident has happened on that road," said Manoj Jena, a social worker. "There are no proper reflectors, warning signs, or speed breakers. These deaths could have been avoided if proper road safety measures were in place."
Local residents have submitted a memorandum to the Pipili Tehsildar demanding the installation of speed-monitoring systems, better street lighting, and regular patrolling by traffic police, especially during late evening hours when such roads are more dangerous.
Final Farewell
The last rites of all three girls were performed today in their respective villages, with hundreds attending to pay their final respects. Friends, family, teachers, and neighbors described them as full of life, dreams, and energy.
"Words cannot express our pain. They had their entire lives ahead of them," said Rimizhimi's father, holding back tears. "All we can do now is pray their souls find peace."
Educational institutions and local organizations have expressed condolences. Some have called for the day to be observed as a local day of mourning.
A Wake-Up Call for All
This tragic incident is yet another grim reminder of how fragile life is, especially on Indian roads where accidents remain a leading cause of death among youth. According to government statistics, more than 1.5 lakh people die annually in road accidents in India, many due to reckless driving, poor infrastructure, or lack of awareness.
As the families of Rimizhimi, Elena, and Kajal grieve their unimaginable loss, the hope remains that their untimely deaths will lead to serious introspection — both by authorities and the public — about driving behavior, infrastructure, and the need for road safety education.
