BJP's 1st Anniversary in Odisha: PM Narendra Modi’s Grand Visit Roadshow & ₹18,600 Cr Projects Launch in Odisha

PM Modi Unveils ₹18,600 Crore Projects During Visit to Odisha: A Milestone in BJP's First Year Rule

Bhubaneswar, June 20, 2025 –

Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Odisha today on a landmark visit to celebrate the completion of one year of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in the state. Marking the occasion with major infrastructure launches, public outreach events, and a grand roadshow in the capital city Bhubaneswar, the visit showcased the BJP's development push and political presence in Eastern India.

The Prime Minister’s visit comes exactly a year after the BJP, for the first time, formed a majority government in Odisha following the 2024 Assembly elections, ending over two decades of BJD rule.

Massive Welcome in Bhubaneswar

Modi landed at Biju Patnaik International Airport at around 3:30 PM, greeted with chants of “Modi Modi” and a vibrant cultural reception by local dance troupes and party workers. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, Union Ministers Dharmendra Pradhan and Ashwini Vaishnaw, and top state BJP leaders received him at the airport.

A major highlight of the day was the grand “Tiranga Yatra” roadshow from the airport to Janata Maidan. Thousands of supporters lined the roads as Modi’s convoy passed through key points like AG Square and Raj Bhavan. Police and paramilitary forces ensured tight security throughout.

Launch of ₹18,600 Crore Development Projects

At a massive public gathering in Janata Maidan, Prime Minister Modi launched and laid foundation stones for projects worth over ₹18,600 crore, covering sectors like railways, highways, drinking water, irrigation, housing, and urban transport.

Among the key highlights:

Flagging off first-ever train services to Odisha’s Boudh district, improving connectivity in the underdeveloped interior region.

Introduction of 100 electric buses under the Bhubaneswar Urban Transport initiative to promote clean mobility.

New drinking water and irrigation projects aimed at supporting agriculture in western Odisha.

Launch of several highway and rural road development works to enhance infrastructure in remote areas.

Boost to healthcare infrastructure through new hospital projects and health centers.

“These projects are not just numbers; they are a symbol of our commitment to Odisha’s holistic development,” Modi said during his address.

Vision 2036: Odisha’s Future Blueprint

The Prime Minister also unveiled the ‘Vision Odisha 2036’ roadmap, setting out long-term goals to mark the state’s 100th year of statehood (to be celebrated in 2036). The vision focuses on sustainable development, modern infrastructure, employment generation, tourism promotion, and cultural preservation.

He emphasized, “Odisha is rich in natural resources and culture. Now, it must become rich in opportunity and growth as well. The next decade will be Odisha’s golden era.”

Women Empowerment & Welfare Focus

During the event, Modi also interacted with women from self-help groups who have become ‘Lakhpati Didis’ – women who have achieved financial independence through entrepreneurship supported by government schemes. Over 16.5 lakh such women have been empowered across Odisha under BJP rule, officials said.

Modi distributed Ayushman Bharat health cards to senior citizens, reiterating the government’s focus on universal health care. The PM also praised the successful rollout of Ujjwala (free LPG), PMAY (housing), and Jan Aushadhi (affordable medicine) schemes in the state.

Cultural Initiatives: Honoring Odisha's Icons

In a special cultural push, Modi launched the ‘Baraputra Aitihya Gram Yojana’, aimed at developing the birthplaces of legendary Odia personalities—like Biju Patnaik, Madhusudan Das, and Gopabandhu Das—into heritage villages and tourist destinations.

He called this effort “a tribute to Odisha’s sons of soil” and said it would help younger generations learn about their glorious heritage.

Security & Public Arrangements

Given the scale of the PM's visit, tight security arrangements were in place, including Special Protection Group (SPG) coverage, drone surveillance, and multi-layered checkpoints. Roads in central Bhubaneswar were barricaded, and schools in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack were declared closed for the day to ease traffic and ensure public safety.

Temple Tech: Digital Donation System for Puri Temple

While the main focus was on development, Modi also briefly mentioned the upcoming digital donation system for the Shri Jagannath Temple in Puri. The new initiative will allow devotees across India and the world to contribute via UPI, net banking, and debit cards. It aims to bring transparency, ease of access, and global reach to temple offerings, which currently collect over ₹50 crore annually.

Political Message Ahead of 2029

Though framed as a developmental visit, Modi’s presence in Odisha also carried strong political undertones, with the BJP aiming to further consolidate its presence in the state. The successful transition of power in 2024 and the rapid rollout of central schemes have given the party new confidence ahead of the 2029 general elections.

“Odisha’s trust in BJP is our greatest strength. We will not let this trust break,” Modi said, concluding his speech.

Conclusion:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s June 20 visit to Odisha was more than a political tour—it was a showcase of the BJP government’s ambitions, delivery, and roadmap for the future. With a mix of welfare, infrastructure, women empowerment, and cultural heritage, the visit reaffirmed the Centre’s growing footprint in Odisha and Eastern India.
